You might have seen over the last few weeks we have done a series on what your broker does. It covers everything from the basics, to research to fun stuff like arguing with anyone and everyone (except customers, we tend to like our customers!).
I thought these articles would be useful for a variety of reasons.
- Some people think our job is a price comparison service. The reality is that most people can find the cheapest deal. You do not need a broker for that. A broker helps you to think about what you want – you might want the cheapest deal. But most people when pressed end up opting for something different.
- Sometimes things do not go according to plan. Even the most straight forward of applications can have problems – having someone on hand to help guide you, reassure you and answer your questions can be invaluable.
- We have examples where lenders make silly decisions or estate agents apply undue pressure and try to push buyers in to doing what is best for them/their customer (ie the seller) rather than what is best for you. We work for our customers, so we will happily go and fight your battles… (hence the arguing post).
Its not rocket science
Our job is not rocket science. If you are straight forward, generally speaking you can pick a lender at random and you should be able to get it over the line.
But our job is to help reduce the chances of there being a problem by dealing with it in advance, fix it if there is one and keep your blood pressure in check.
We will of course do the research and find you the most suitable lender at the best price possible. But we are not a price comparison service.
We work for you
When you are buying a home, it is easy to be lulled into a false sense of the estate agent being on your side. The reality is they get paid by the seller.
On the arguing article you might have read about how we have had to protect a customer from a shady deal relying on trust – from a vendor and agent who had done nothing to warrant being trusted!
We work for you. We have nearly 2 decades of experience in financial services, pick our brains! If you have a wobble, come and tell us. We like to think we have seen it all or at least most things.

In short, we are so much more than finding you the cheapest product.
We are hear to ensure you know your options, find you the most suitable product and get you over the finish line.
If there is a problem with agents, vendors, underwriters – we are on your side. We will lace up the boxing gloves and fight your corner.
If you have a wobble, we will talk to you. We will put you back together and do our best to get the anxiety levels back in check.
